How to make a brat lyric video for TikTok
The word-by-word lime-green lyric video is one of the most recognisable brat trends. Here's how to make one in about five minutes, free, on your phone or computer.

What you need
- The lyrics or words you want to show. Your own words work great too.
- The audio (optional): a clip of the song, a voiceover, or nothing at all.
- A recent browser: Chrome, Edge or Safari give you an MP4 file.
- About five minutes.
Everything happens in the brat video generator. Nothing is uploaded, and there's no sign-up.
Step 1: write the lyrics
Type or paste the words into the Lyrics or text box. Put each line of the song on its own row; it makes syncing easier to follow.
Short videos perform best, so pick the hook or chorus rather than the whole song. Somewhere between 10 and 40 words usually makes a 7–20 second clip.
Step 2: choose the look
- Animation: Word is the classic brat lyric look, one word per screen. Build adds words one by one; Line shows a full line at a time.
- Colors: brat green with black text, or tick Swap colors each frame for a flashing green-and-black effect.
- Size: choose Story 9:16 for TikTok, Reels and Shorts.
- Text size: 60–70% keeps words clear of TikTok's buttons and captions.
Step 3: add audio and sync the words
You have two options.
Option A: tap to sync (best for songs)
- Tap Add audio and choose your audio file (MP3, M4A or WAV, up to 3 minutes).
- Set Timing to Tap to sync.
- Press Start tap sync. The audio starts playing.
- Tap the big Tap button each time a word is sung. On a computer, the space bar works too.
- When you've tapped every word, press Play preview to check. If it's off, press Start tap sync and do it again. It usually takes two or three tries to nail it.
Tip: tap slightly before each word rather than exactly on it. It feels better to watch, because the word is on screen as you hear it.
Option B: auto timing (best without audio)
Leave the audio empty, set Timing to Auto and adjust Time per word. Around 300–450 ms suits most songs. You can add the sound later inside TikTok.
Step 4: create and download the video
Press Create video. The video records in real time, so a 15-second clip takes about 15 seconds. Keep the tab open and your screen on until the Download button appears.
Chrome, Edge and Safari usually save an MP4, which TikTok accepts. If you get a WebM file, open the page in Chrome or Safari and create it again.
Step 5: post it on TikTok (and handle the music)
- Open TikTok, tap + and upload the video from your gallery.
- If you made the video without audio, tap Add sound and choose the song from TikTok's library, then line up the start.
- If you included the audio yourself, you can keep it, but commercial songs are copyrighted and may be muted. Using TikTok's own sound library is the safer route.
- Write a lowercase caption. Our brat captions list has plenty of ideas.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| Words appear late | Redo tap sync and tap a fraction earlier |
| Video stutters | Close other tabs and keep the page visible while it records |
| Got a WebM file | Use Chrome, Edge or Safari to get an MP4 |
| Song got muted after posting | Post without audio and add the song from the app's library |
| Text hidden by buttons | Lower the text size to about 60% |

Frequently asked questions
How do you make the brat lyric video trend?
Type the lyrics into a brat video generator, choose the word-by-word animation in brat green, sync the words to the song with tap to sync, then download and post the video.
What size should a TikTok lyric video be?
Use a vertical 9:16 video. The brat video generator's Story size makes a 720 × 1280 video, which fits TikTok, Reels and Shorts.
Can I make a brat lyric video on my phone?
Yes. The generator works in mobile browsers, and tap to sync is especially easy on a touchscreen. Keep the screen on while the video records.
Will my video get muted for copyright?
It can if it contains a commercial song. To be safe, make the video without audio and add the song from TikTok's own sound library.
